We will visit one of the largest Jewish graveyards in Europe in terms of area, number of people buried and number of tombstones. It contains almost 25% of all the Jewish tombstones preserved in Poland today.
It`s also probably the world`s biggest collection of Jewish art. Many of its 100 000 tombstones are masterpieces of art made by the most prominent Jewish and Polish artists.
It is a tragic paradox of history that today the only surviving place which fully narrates 200 years of life of Warsaw Jews is this cemetery – the place where they were ending their lives.
Please note:
The cemetery is closed during Shabbat (Friday afternoon, Saturday) and on Jewish holidays.
